Maybe they'd put a little piece of Ted Williams DNA in your rotors too.

Default I saw something about this on a science show a couple of years ago...

as an example they gave the host of the show a disposible razor and it lasted for months. Meaning that the blade was so hard that it never lost it's edge.

Default When I took metallurgy in the mid-70s, the only way to get carbon into solution, and change the ...

crystal structure was using heat, not cold.
Quenching the steel would lock the lattice structures, and annealing (slightly heating) would make changes to the steel structure.

I can't see how super cooling below room temperature would have any effect on the molecular structure of the steel, at all.
Unless the techology has changed in the last 25 years, of which I doubt...

Default Cryogenicly treating your rotors is not uncommon, and from what I recall

from Materials Engineering in college, defientely does work. It might, however, only be worth it if you start with a good set of rotors you want to last for awhile. I don't think I'd treat the stock ones. I've heard numbers up to twice the wear of non-cryo treated rotors.

I belive your basically straighting the atomic bonds and taking imperfections out of the crystal structure. For those fellow ME's out there, your transforming any retained Austenite to Martensite.

Steel is still steel. That technology has not changed in years.

Default Read this link: Cryogenic treatment after room-temp equilibrium is still effective,

and will still pull some retained austenite out to martensite.

In short: It does work. The process is becoming better understood and more cost effective.
