Default I do agree with you on that point actually. If you promise to only drive in tip mode, then it's ok.

My only regret is that I can't mod as much, since the transmission can't handle the same torque levels. That's a real pisser!!

Default An auto is fine for a normally aspirated engine (2.8), but with a turbo, you'd probably

want a manual if you'll ever want to accelerate hard from a stop.

Hey, are you in KY? Me too. Not too many others on this board from this region. Where abouts?

Default LOL! Oh how misinformed you are.............

Tiptronic is NOT an F1 style tranny.

Tiptronic is a marketing tool. It is simply a catchy interface for the old method of using D,3, 2,1. Now instead of moving the lever down a notch sequentially, you tap it front or back. Whoopee. It's still just a plain *** automatic.

Default Elaboration............

F1 cars have servo-assisted clutches. Auto trannies like the Tip have Torque Converters.

Therefore, I suppose the real poseurs are the Tip drivers. Sorry.

Default Aren't F1 trannys (along with the Ferrari F1 semi-auto) really manual transmissions

with a hydraulically actuated clutch? Seems like I read that somewhere.

Default Tip is actually different that D,3,2,1

it stays in the gear you select -- if you put an auto in 3, it will still go though 1,2 to get to 3.. it only limits the top

Yes, but the clutch is operated by a solenoid or servo

Default Yep dry plate...it's not anything like an automatic...it's a normal clutch with

a computer that monitors road speed...engine speed...shaft speeds...etc using all this it does a better job with the clutch than you could ever dream of. I heard some of them even will blip the throttle for you on the downshift...that's just sick, I want one ;-)

Regards,

James R.
