what is the tool needed to remove the connecting rod bolts and who has them.

What is the year and model of your vehicle and which engine are you referring to?

sorry that would probably help, a4 2.8l v6 30 valve 1998

The connecting rod end caps are usually held on with bolts having 12-point heads on most VW/Audi engines. The cylinder head bolts require a 10mm polydrive 6-point socket with a long shaft.

If you are in the process of an engine overhaul, check the Bentley workshop manual for the procedures as many of the fasteners such as the cylinder head and connecting rod bolts are designed for one-use only and must be replaced.

well its not a 12 point it looks just like the poly drive I have, but when I look up poly drive all I get is the poly drive I already have but I need socket.

ZDMAK and other vendors carry the 'E-Torx' sockets for that type of fastener.

Go to: http://toolss.com and click on the Audi tab then put 'Torx female' into the search box to find the list of tools.
