Default TRIP computer question

Is it possible to get the trip computer installed by the dealership if you didnt ask for it on the car when you originally purchased the car?

Default I thought...not sure...that the trip computer came on all A4s...

But, I didn't start paying attention to them until I shopped for mine starting in February of last year. So, I know nothing as far as earlier models.

Default I called my dealer about this ->

My 98.5 does not have one, and I want one. I have done some research with Bently and ETKA. It seems that the only difference is the instrument cluster and the wiper lever. All the electronics seem to be in the cluster itself. You need wiper lever with one that has the up, down, and reset buttons. I am just afraid that the ECU is different or maybe there is a sensor or something else that I am overlooking...

I called the my dealer's parts dept. and they said that the cluster is about $600 and the lever is around $50. They did not know if it would work, they told me to call AoA.

I called AoA and they said that I would have to have the dealer call their tech line to confirm that it will work with just those two parts. WTF? Have to call my dealer again... If they confirm that it will work maybe I will first hit the salvage yards and save some $$...

Anyone know more about this?

Default Glad I waited!

Not that I had any choice, but it worked out pretty well, I think!
