Unusual problem
Now I have a noise coming from my powersteering pump. The noise sounds like a mechanical noise, rythmix like the engine idling - not like a bearing. My powersteering fluid is reasonably clean and topped up.
The noise seems to be louder towards the from on the PS pump. (Tested with a long screw driver on my ear and the otehr end on the various parts of the PS pump)
Here are the weird things:
I didn't touch the power steering pump during the timing belt job.
I never noticed the noise before I changed the timing belt. (I didn't noticed it till the 2nd time I drove the car after the timing belt job was done)
Most importantly the noise goes away when turning the steering - unlike a normal 'bad' powersteering pump that makes more noise when under load.
If anyone has any ideas - please let me know.
