Default Update on downpipe...

...I said in my previous post that I wasn't sure just how much difference the downpipe made.. (<A HREF="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/threads/724032.phtml#1316777">here</A>) After having driven it quite a bit more, I can safely say that the downpipe makes a BIG difference.. I started being really impressed with how hard it pulls, and how fast the turbo spools up. Definitely worth the money, I recommend them to everyone.. pictureboy's the man.

how much turbo lag did you gain down low? I wouldn't upgrade the dp w/o a bigger turbo.

Default I think you're thinking about torque, not turbo lag..

..Turbo lag goes down all over, both in theory as far as I know, and definitely in practice in this case. You can lose torque down low by adding a downpipe, and reducing backpressure that much more, but with our car it really isn't a concern. It's only a positive thing, lots of people with K03's have 2.5" downpipes; they come on lots of exhaust setups. In any event, I'm installing a K04 in a week or two anyway.

Default no, you really don't lose torque, since it's always there. ..unless PES is blowing smoke up my dp.

my OEM cat broke away at the flange from the turbo (which seems to be happening more and more often AND the replacement had been actually welded together instead of just sitting in the flange - yes, I saw the old to compare so they didn't just weld on my old one). I wasn't sure if it was going to covered under warranty with my APR exhaust, but it was. Until I found out, I placed a call to PES to talk about their race cat/dp, since I wasn't about to buy the OEM cat/dp from the stealer. They told me that it's no real gain until a bigger turbo is added and you'll feel a little lag in boost down low.

Default true. i have 2.5" dp from pictureboy and milltek and felt lost some power at low rpms and initial...

also the DP broke the cat off but luckily my dealer was willing to give me brand new cat and put it back in. I'll have to look closer at solution when I get a sport/race cat that gives on CEL

Default Don't go spouting off things unless you understand the theory..

..No offense, but that makes no sense at all. Theoretically it just doesn't work out, and clearly also not in real application. You shouldn't blindly criticize what many other people on the boards are doing because you need to justify having gone and bought an OEM downpipe when you had the chance to buy an aftermarket one, probably for cheaper too.

Default I certainly didn't..

You have a 99.5 so maybe your car pushes more boost than my 2000, hence the results, but I still don't understand how in theory you could gain any turbo lag down low. It doesn't make any sense.

Default my two lincolns....

I have a 3-inch downpipe coming straight off the turbo (K04), with high-flow cat moved to under the car, and I have no additional lag in low rpms. Its always right there. I dont think i've lost any power down low, but probably havent gained any there either. However, the breathing up top is definately worth it. I pulls harder from 4K to redline. I'd venture that a 2.5in dp w/ a K03 would be juzz fine...

Also- several sources have told me that "backpressure" only applies to naturally aspirated motors- turbo motors dont need ANY. The best setup for a race turbo is an open exhaust- just the turbo exhaling into the atmosphere.
