Upgrading stereo
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Rick
1. Replace the front door speakers, use MB Quart custom spacer (or have one fabricated) to get a 5 1/4 in the door. That shold firm up the mid bass, remember to buy a good component set with cross overs to remove the low bass that a sub should do.
2. Don't cheap out on amplifier power! Good power = good clean sound. Some would argue this is more important than the speakers.
3. Rear speakers are called "rear fill" for a reason. Sound should come from front not back.
4. Sub set-ups can be tricky, be specific on what you want so your installer can set you up with exaclty what you want.
5. Sound is completely personal no-one can tell you what will be "best".
Personally this is my plan, 5 1/4 and tweeter in front doors (probably MB Quart). Replace rear with 6 1/2 seperates (lots of new seperates come with the tweeter suspended over the woofer so no need to cut rear grill). Retain stock deck!! Looks too good to remove and there are line level boosters that can clean up the stock deck sound to a large degree. Finally the trunk, I intend to remove the spare (flame suit on) and fiberglass in the wheel well. Then drop in a 12" (thinking AVI, maybe Fosgate) and a 6 channel amp with a 1 farad capacitor. When complete the stock carpet will throw in the trunk and nothing will be visible. This could be more than your budget but a small enclosure sub like a Fosgate RF with an amp mounted to it will take up little space and save a bunch of money.
Thats my $0.02 (mayeb a bit more)
