vag com help

Just hooked up my newly bought vag com to my 98.5 A4. and it is not working. The green light on the vag com is not lighting up? Does it light up when you hook it into the car, or when it's hooked up to the computer? Trying to figure out if this is a defect. Yes, it is hooked into both the same time.

did you go into options and tets the connection? did your computer recognize the device?

yep, it reconized that I was using a serial port com 1. and I saved the setting. but ODBII was not found for my car. 98.5 A4 and the little green light on the vag com is not lighting up.
