Value after engine replacement?
If you're curious, I changed the oil every 5000 miles and started using synthetic as soon as the warning came out. Car likely only had oil changes every 10000 before I bought it with 29000 miles.
This would be an unfortunate incident but that doesn't mean the car was "Ragged out".
I think that if the previous owner was up front about it I think it would be a non issue. However I would also be quite upset if he/she tried to hide it.
I am not trying to start something and am just offering an additional opinion, I hope I didn't step on your toes.

Ultimately, an informed buyer could end up with a car that has a relative new engine/tranny/whatever.
Of course the vast majority of buyers are ignorant, so....
To answer jeffmo's question more directly, it's not likely to help your resale. It will scare away a number of buyers, and for the right buyer, it will become a selling point. The problem is, the right buyer falls in the minority.
