VDO Boost Gauge

I've been having a problem w/ my VDO boost gauge. Install was a no brainer but since the install when I am light on the throttle or at the very beginning of pressure coming through the line, the gauge has tendency to give off a vibrating sound. HAs anyone else experienced this? The gauge is mounted in an A pillar mount. Again it's only when a small amount of pressure is applied. It's amazingly annoying, since it's been an ongoing dilemma. I have replaced the gauge 3 times, so I don't believe that the gauge is bad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.97'A4 1.8TQ Wett,AvantGarde,etc.....

same problem, sent my first gauge to vdo, they sent me a new one, same vibration under all boost conditions, installed a larger line, still have the problem, totally inexcusable vdo

Try a pinhole sized restricting orifice mounted close to manifold as possible

THIS IS NORMAL!

Unless you use a "liquid" filed guage this will be normal response. What is happening, is you are seeing the "frequency valve" doing it's thing. There is a valve that the ECU controls to say whether the wastegate is open or closed, it happens very fast and so you see oscilation in the boost guage. With a "liquid" filled one, you would get a natural dampening effect that would hide most of this.Alan

You have two options...

Option 1: tap the airline feed at the throttle body. There is a small raised metal for you to drill a hole. By relocating the feed point, you 're not picking up the manifold pressure waves, which is causing the gauge to vibrate. VW motorsport chose this option for their racing cars.Option 2: call VDO and ask for their engineering dept. Have them send you a tiny little air restricter that goes into the back of the gauge. The restricter is a bit bigger than the hole that it fits in (because it was designed for the cockpit gauge, not the vision series, which is the one you have). So you need to slightly enlarge the hole before you press-fit the restricter in. I chose this option and it cured my vibration problem. The vibration drove me crazy after 1 month.Jonathan
