Weather affects remote range

I searched the archive for this subject but I couldn't found a clear answer. My remote always lose the long range when the weather gets cold, especially when the temperature goes below 0 degrees C. Also during the cold weather the remote lose the BEEP sound. Funny thing is when the weather gets warm, the remote range and the BEEP sound back to normal. This is not only happens in my 97 A4, but also happens in my new 99 Jetta. Is this situations normal? Have you had the Booster Antenna installed? It increased range by 30-40 feet

Will it increase the remote range on cold weather (below 0 degress C) at the same time?

I have the booster antenna. Range still changes with weather . . .

Hey Tom,I've had my booster antenna added. I still notice that in certain weather, my remote range seems to be down drastically. It is the batteries. Alkaline batteries lose their strength in cold weather. I think only lithium batteries are imune to cold. In any case keep the remote warm and it should be fine.

Mine does also, but I still get better than 30 feet...

you might want to check where they installed the new antenna. It would be easy to wire tie it up to the back of the metal bumper, but it would still be shielded by the bumper. I installed mine down on the clips that hold the rear spoiler, getting it away from the bumper (you will see what I'm talking about if you look up under the bumper, there are 3 of these clips). The paperwork (TBA?, I don't remember) didn't specify where to mount the antenna, and some folks haven't got the range increase, so I wonder if it isn't being tied to the metal bumer.
