Weird Noises...
Okay.. I've been hearing so weird noises in my car. When the weather was cold, my turbo used to whine or whistle when I first started driving. Now the weather has warmed up and it doesn't stop... It just whines for the entire drive. Is something wrong with the turbo?
Second, my car used to be almost silent at idle. At lights and stuff, people would ask me if I stalled cause it was so quiet. Now there is this tapping noise coming from the engine. Some of my friends with older cars have this problem, but I don't understand why I would. What is it?

Open the hood, is the tapping coming from above the airbox?
or from the valves?As the weather is getting warmer, the MAS (I believe) ticks like crazy. This is normal.
If its the valves, bring it to the dealer.

If that's the case, you may have damaged a hydraulic lifter.
Just to be sure, get the engine hot and listen to where the sound is coming from. This will give you a better idea of what may be wrong.
If its just a slight tapping sound from the lifters, don't worry. If its gets really noisey and you think its fron the bottom end, you most likely spun a bearing by over reving your engine, although not likely in a 1.8 T though as the bottom end is built for abuse.

That secondary air pump makes the car sound like an old VW. It's not consistent with the noises she mentions. Tapping sounds like lifters, and the increased whine could be from more boost in the warmer temperatures.
Audigirl, when the weather is cold, the ECU will dial back the boost. When the temps reach about 60, I think the ECU will dial up a larger amount of boost. This could result in a louder turbo whine. It's hard to judge, but do you notice the car pulling harder?
