Default weird problem

i was just wondering if anyone who lives in a colder climate has experienced the same problem i have...here it is....our temperatures have been below zero with the wind chill the last few days and my car has started without a problem until the other day...it was low on fuel and it sounded like the car was out of gas when i tried starting it after having it parked for a few hours...it just would not "catch." i put enough gas in it to be sufficient to start but it still would not start...i called roadside assistance and of course it started for them after the second try. however a few hours later after the car was parked again, it would not start...roadside came back and did not know what the problem was so they towed it...i heard that it could have something to do with condensation in the fuel tank according to them...just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem...also, the gas gauge doesn't move when turning the key to the "on" position as it usually does. i found that weird? could it be the fuel pump or the condensation??? i guess i will find out on monday when they check it out. thanks

Default Wind chill doesn't affect inanimate objects (except for cooling them faster), but... (more)

...it's recommended to keep at least 1/2 tank of gas in your car when the ambient temperature is low. This is to help reduce condensation in the tank. Good luck with your car, and let us know how it goes.

Default Always keep at least half a tank to prevent moisture.

You may have filled up with a bad tank too. It is not unheard of for a gas station to get moisture in their tanks. I would just wait and see if it keeps happening.

Default Cold wx tips from Ontario, Canada

Up here in Canada, we keep our gas tanks topped up with good quality gas. Never let it get below half full. Also, you may wish to try some gas line antifreeze.

Going from warm garage to cold outside or from cold outside to warm garage doesn't help the condenstaion problem either

Default same problem with another vehicle (big truck)...

keep you tank filled up. condensation in the fuel tank can lead to corrosion up in the engine. not only that, but when we plowed uphill, sometimes the engine would not receive not gas, but the condensation thereby cutting out.=; a pretty dangerous situation!

What did the dealer do for you? I responded to your initial question, but for some reason, it's listed separately from yours. I had the same problem twice with over 1/2 tank of premium Mobil gas and about 5000 miles on the car. The dealer instructed me NOT to put dry gas in the car. The dealer and Audi suspect carbon buildup. My plugs were replaced yesterday with hotter burning ones, and my oil was changed because they believe gas had leaked into the oil. We'll see if this does the trick.
