I had my a4 at the dealer last November or so to get the coolant temp. sensor fixed. They said it was a malfunctioning instrument cluster after I told them it was just the sensor (confirmed it myself), so they replaced the cluster and of course my problem persisted. Keep in mind this was NOT an Audi dealer; it was an Acura dealer who also owned an Audi dealer and had a few techs on staff that supposedly knew Audi's.. It was also where I bought my a4.. they had tons of them that were trade ins and what not from the guys Audi dealer. Didn't see that as much of a problem at the time considering the circumstances and the killer deal I got. As a side note, I replaced the temp sensor myself about a week later and all was good.

Anyways, I was reading my maintenance manual and noticed the text: "Federal Law requires that a label be affixed to the left door frame when the replacement odometer does not indicate the actual vehicle mileage after repair or replacement." Well my new instrument cluster does not read the actual vehicle mileage.. so I went to check for said sticker and did not find one..

Of course this totally KILLS any resale value, as any half way intelligent consumer would be able to figure out the mileage numbers don't add up and the invoice (has mileage number from when I took the car in) I have from the dealer could be easily forged..

What should I do?

 

did you pay for the new cluster and labor? i don't think i would've. iirc the dealer can flash milage on a new cluster to match real milage.

 

Only paid $50.. extended warranties are great.
Not really what I'm trying to find out however. Main concern is my resell value when I can't prove the odometer mileage, and the fact that the dealer violated a federal law by not placing the sticker on the door frame.. Wondering if I need to call a lawyer..

 

when you sell it put a disclaimer on the bill of sale. this is legal in NH. it's only a crime if you don't state accual milage.

 

when you order a new instrument cluster from audi it comes without anything programed into it.you have to program milage,sevice interval,adaptation,andcoding through the 5051/5052 scan tool.if these so-called audi techs where indeed informed about audis they would have known this info.if i where you id take it to an audi dealership have anouther instrument cluster installed with proper milage,coding,adaptation,and send the bill to the acura dealer.
