what does the tip chip do???

It makes things better...
The GIAC trans chip(Tiptronic chip) addresses the "lazy" shifting as delivered from the factory, without losing any smoothness. Users of this chip have described the results as similar to "superbike" shifting! The GIAC trans chip solves gear "hunting" under full throttle caused by the massive torque of a well designed engine chip.
The GIAC trans chip is a "must have" for all tiptronic transmissions, regardless of the chip in your engine computer (even stock.)

I have one and it's ok at best. I would get it again as it doesn't cost much, but it's not quite as
advertised. The main improvement is the quick response to the Tip lever. Unless of course the torque levels or other computer controlled parameters are wrong, then the transmission makes the decision for you. It does not make the tranny shift faster or complete shifts faster or firmer. Just quicker response to the Tip lever input. In auto mode, I don't really notice anything different. My car doesn't have the 4th-5th gear hunting issue which may be due to the Tip Chip. It supposedly increases fluid pressure to make the tranny a little more capable, but I can't do anything to verify that.
Like I said, it's not too expensive and it's worth it not to have the hunting issue and the quick response to the Tip lever is great.
