Default What is this things function?

I was replacing all my vacuum lines and took off this valve of sorts. I have an AWM engine so not sure if it's unique to my motor.

Anyways, I noticed it was filled with a ton of burned up oil, so I clean it out, and chunks galor! Really nasty, makes me wonder if I should replace it.

Anyways, what does it do? I tried to put vacuum and pressure on both ends, but it holds neither, is it not working?

This is located on the intake hose to turbo, look at bottom picture.

Thanks for help.

BTW, for those curious about the Carbonio air intake here is a pic with the stuff under the CF.

Default PCV valve, clean it out well is all you should need. They get nasty.

It's cheap too if you're worried you could replace it.

Dude, that hot air intake isn't helping your driveability issues much.

IIRC it's just a baffle of sorts and has no moving parts at all.

Default it doesn't .

However it engages the other valve at the start of the system near the oil cooler. The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation ) system allows pressure built up in the engine to vent into the air intake and burn during the combustion process. The ventilation usually inludes oil and oil fumes, which gets stuck in the other vavle (which may or may not be a baffle) and is burned during combustion. It causes a great deal of carbon build up in the engine. Ideally you would have some sort of catch can to catch all of the oil and prevent it from being burned.

I have a pic in my pic roster of the rest of the system.

Default Do you have a catch can setup on yours?

Where exactly would you put it?

Default I don't, however....

I think greddy sells one. I thought it mounted down below the coolant expansion tank. I could be wrong though, but you could route it somewhere.
