Whats the difference between 1.8 and 2.8 manual trans?

Default Whats the difference between 1.8 and 2.8 manual trans?
Could I put the 1.8 manual trans in a 30v car?

Most people go the other way, as the gearing is different.

I will let someone who has done the research splain it.


( BTW< I have installed a 2.8 trans is a 1.8...)

You can, but you'd cruise at a higher RPM and enjoy reduced gas mileage.

so does that mean that you could achieve better fuel economy by putting the 2.8 tranny in a 1.8T?

Default No mounting issues whatsoever. They are both 01A trannys.
Same outside casing, different guts. You will need to swap over one of the mount brackets from your old tranny, but the holes are in both cases already (1.8t and 2.8)
