Window Regulator

One of my plastic clips that holds the window to the regulator broke and now audi wants to replace the whole window regulator for 200$ plus labor. They say that you cannot simply order the plastic parts. This is a Joke. The Plastic parts must cost a whopping 2.00$ to make and they just clip on to the wire cable. 96 A4 2.8 with 95000 miles on it. Help!!!!!!! maybe a trip to the junk yard I guess.

Can't help you with the part...

but that's precisely the type of thing that has me worried about keeping this car for a long time ('97 with 87K). It's bad enough that you can't buy an oil filter (or a battery or much of anything else) anywhere but the dealer, but when you have to start replacing $200 modules to fix a $.10 part, it gets pretty expensive to maintain the car. I just developed the peeling dashboard problem, which I'm going to live with for the time being, and it's probably just a matter of time before I have to deal with things like the control arms, instrument panel lights, window switches and regulators.

I know this didn't help you at all. You just hit a nerve and I felt like ranting.

Don't know about the others, but I got an aftermarket oil filter for my '98.5!

Mine's a 2.8. I've found filters aftermarket filters for the 1.8, but not for the 2.8. One dealer charges me $27. Another charges $18.

Pep Boys carries a Purolator oil filter for the 2.8. $3.99... Not sure on the #, but it is in the filter application quide.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

I've looked at Auto Zone and a couple other places, but not at Pep Boys. I bought my oil there last time, but had already bought a filter at the dealer, so I didn't check.

You should probably try places like German Parts & Restoration for those clips rather than dishing out that kind of cash. Or, (knock on wood) if someone were to get into an accident you can take theirs granted they're not damaged.

You're right Kyle...... You hit the nail on the head. I love the way this car handles and drives and I havent had any powertrain problems BUT!!! all this little crap is starting to make me strongly think about the BMW all wheel drive 330xi for next car. I have 95000 and sure enough i've lost my dash lights, my low fuel tone, my airbag light burned out so that disabled my airbags. Now they taken the dash apart so many times it rattles. My remote mirror control swith doesnt work,that was 75$ just to diagnose. I could go on but I wont,,,, I'm venting too
