Windshield cracking

Had noticed a number of problems with windshield's cracking. Is thia a problem and if so has Audi done anything about it?

I read an article somewhere (more)

which said that the only problem experienced with VWs was windshield cracking.

I think I read this in a long-term review in a popular car magazine.

There have been recent posts which claim that German glass is softer than in the U.S.

That's all I know -- no personal experience with this or with U.S. dealers/dealer service.

It happened to my A4. The windshield cracked midline at the bottom - about 6 inches long. It was sitting in the garage overnight and the temperatures were moderate.

The windshield cracked on my 99.5 2.8 Avant with less than 2K miles. The dealer replaced it with no hassles. There may be a pattern here but the dealer, at least in my case, took care of it.

Audi has serious problems with windshields. Our A4 has gone through 3 windshields in 60,000km, none being caused by anything noticeable. My '94 90 has gone through 2 in 20,00km, and a friends '98 A6 has gone through at least three in 30,000 miles. None were caused by an ovious thing like rocks, something is definately not right
