Yet Another Turbo Timer Question
I have seen people post info on a Greddy Turbo Timer ($89) that is back-lit red and meshes well with the interior of a 2001 A4. I saw the FAQ's on the installation and it looks really difficult, beyond my knowledge. My question is to get it professionally installed, where can I go to get it done right (I live in Minneapolis, MN)? How much will it cost? Where can I pick up this particular Turbo Timer?
How much will it cost for xenon lights to be installed by the dealer? I am regretting that I did not choose that option. Will it still be $500, as it is posted on the price list? Thanks all for your help....

What you would have gotten was a package price straight from the factory. This is now a time and materials issue.
I'm getting the dealer to install projector headlights in my 97 A4 (I don't really want to cut away at my fender and screw up). It should cost about $80-100 for the labor, and the parts will be about $320 from PG Performance. I could bring in Lltek's $1299 Xenons and have them install that for probably the same amount, unless the installation was harder.
Oh, and I'm in Minnesota as well.<p>

Why is the price of the xenons so expensive. Even if it is a package deal, can't I get the xenons for that price ($500) and have them installed at around $100-150 for labor? Am I missing something or are xenon lights that expensive?

You remind me of a friend that I have. He would argue and complain about how companies would screw you over. Our conversations would go something like this:
Got my A4 for $19K
That's high!
Dealer got it from auction for about $14.5K
Then you're being screwed! That's not fair! You should have paid about $15K, maybe 15.5K at the most!
I'm not a dealer, I can't go to the auctions and buy a car at cost, just to bring it back.

There's a cost that a person will pay for an item, and there's an actual cost. Heck, look at the people on ebay buying the #1 spot on the waiting list for $15K. Absurd? Yes.
If you can find the xenons for $500, then buy them. They will install them for you. Hell, the dealership charges $8/qt for synthetic oil. What is the solution? Bring your own. You can't just sit there complaining and expect things to work out. Xenons are still relatively new here in the US, laws of supply and demand for spare parts... etc.
I know that the ECU isn't worth $800, heck I can buy a computer that's 10X more powerful for $800, but that is the market value. So what did I do? I bought one used.
Sorry for the complaint, but I get sick of hearing about how life isn't fair. Tough.<p>

Find a stereo place to install your turbo timer
It took me a long time to find a place that would install my turbo timer (and bypass the factory alarm). Call around and ask some stereo shops if you can do it. Make sure you bring James R's instructions.
I found a place in Richmond, B.C. Canada (only a 2 hour drive from seattle). They did it for $120.<p>Cori
