it's certainly cheaper, don't think anyone has done any realworld comparison to determine faster
Chipped 1.8T is faster than a 2.8, but the 3.0 has many more horsies than the 2.8 did. Probably a drivers race.

My buddy has the 3.0 and I have the 1.8t w/ GIAC.
His 6 speed, mine 5 speed. Same results either driver... 3.0 leaves first, by 50mph 1.8 is jogging by, at 90mph the 3.0 is about 4-5 car lengths behind. 3.0 is bone stock. He still has 4.5k more into his car than me. I think all you 3.0 guys are paying 5k more for some chrome badging, wood trim and an xtra gear. Whatever. I think the 3.0 has huge untapped potential.
