Another Clunk Thread...
I read some of the previous posts about front end clunks... but none seems to be exactly what my car is doing so I thought I would post and see what comes up.
My car is a 1.8T BTW.
When making a HARD left turn from a dead stop I will get a Clunk on occasion from the RT front. It sounds almost like someone hitting the bottom of the car lightly with a mallet. The noise isnt terribly loud, but is is annoying and occurs only when the wheel is cut hard to the left... going to the right everything is smooth.
At speed the car is quiet and performs flawlessly. The only item worth mentioning is that I get a small amount of vibration on certain road types while none on others.
On another car (non-audi) I had a similar noise come from a weak shock tower bushing and was an easy fix. Since this is my first Audi in a long time, I am wondering if this could be a wheel bearing.... BUT as mentioned there is no humming at speed nor anything abnormal felt in the wheel at speed. I only hear this noise when pulling out of my parking space in the morning and cutting a hard left turn to get out.
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Martin.
Hopefully someone who has had and fixed this problem will chime in... because I am in an area of the USA for the next several months were the Audi dealer or any one who knows that my car "Is NOT a Chevy" is hard to come by (E.g. nearest dealer or foreign auto mechanic is at least a 2 hour drive, and I would not be a happy camper having to use my Alfa spider as a daily driver in this heat.
Thanks again guys!
Cheers
Martin.
