Is anyone having A/C problems?

I did'nt notice it until Sat. My little sister, who was sitting in the passenger seat at the time, complained that my A/C was not cold enough. I thought she was just busting my chops, as usual. I checked the far left air vent and, sure enough it was blowing very cold. I did'nt think anything more about it until we were on the way home..(she was still ragging me about it.) This time I checked her air vents, and dammit, she was right!!! Even with both temps. set to low, the passenger vents were blowing just regular air, no A/C. I called the service department today and they told me to bring it in on Tuesday. Just as a precaution, I borrowed a laser thermometer from work and tested the air comming from each vent, It seems that the passenger vents only blow air at about 75 degrees no matter how high or low the setting is. i will post my service departments results when I get my car back. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Funny, since I am always driving, I would have never noticed it.

Sounds like the dual climate control is having some problem with the passenger side - keep us posted

You bet.

2002 A4 3.0 Avant. Occasionally air's like a blast furnace, whatever's going on outside. Only way to get cool is to set it to LO and juice the fan. Then you freeze your daintier parts off. Back to 65 and away it goes in turbo-hairdryer mode again.

The car's in right now for the second time to look at this. As far as I can judge, it seems to be a basic computer programming error in the AC system, so hopefully a software revision should fix it.

Anyone at AoA listening? ;-) C'mon, we know you are, so let's see a recall and an AC software upgrade.

Frustrating A/C problems on '02 A4 Avant. When outside temp is 80+ and sunny, no cold air will blow. Even LO (max) setting takes 20+ minutes to begin cooling -- even just sitting in traffic (ie, no engine stress). This system is not nearly as powerful as '98 GTI VR6 the A4 replaced.

Backstory: When I took delivery (2 weeks ago), the A/C system didn't work at all. Car went back for service on day 2 (ouch!) Turns out the refrigerant was almost empty (even though the delivery checklist indicated system was checked and working properly). I was advised that the compressor will not turn on if levels are too low to preserve system (refrigerant is system lubricant too). Got this "fixed," and service said everything else was fine. System seemed to be OK at first, until the weather got warm again. It's frustrating, as the system seems normal when temps are mid-70s. This just can't be right.

Please keep updating this thread if anyone makes progress on this issue.

Wow.. that really doesn't sound right. :) I got a compliment last night on how fast my AC was (more)

I hit auto on the climate control (it was off completely with the windows down) and about 10 seconds later, my friend in the back seat commented that he was already enjoying the cold air. I always just leave the climate control set to 68 degrees in the summer and either have it in econ, full auto, or off completely - don't play with anything else, and it cools right away.

(I have the sedan - but the AC system should be identical on both)

I thought I am too sensitive but guess not...

The weather was like 90+ over the weekend and I felt that the A/C wasn't very cold. It felt like it's only blowing out regular air instead of cold air. I will check that out again. BTW, seems like most of u guys with A/C problem is with an Avant. Anyone have problem with sedan?
