ARGH!!!!
So . . . now I have a new ABS module in, but the car still will not start and all the lights are still on (ESP, ABS, Check Engine). The battery was unhooked for half an hour, so the computer should of cleared right? I haven't pulled codes yet, still waiting for the cable to arrive to do so with VAG-COM.
The start to the whole thing was what I assumed was watered down gas, the car started to sputter under acceleration shortly after filling up from one particular gas station. But it seemed it had gotten better, even stop sputtering the day before it completely died.
Anyone have any ideas?
You obviously have power since all of the lights are on.
If it cranks but doesn't start I'd say fuel pump.
Did it run rough at all before or just suddenly die?
Call me paranoid, but I don't trust mechanics on my wife's Audi anymore, even the dealer incorrectly identifies problems most of the time.
Totally differnet animal of course, but my 2002 Nissan Altima died on the road shortly after I bought it...like I was cruising along at 40mph and the motor just cut out on me. Bad camshaft position sensor in that case. NNa later issued a recall.
For the sputtering issue I'd say coil packs or fuel pump. If it's not getting any fuel and is just burning residual in the line then that would cause sputtering.
I may be on track to replace my coil packs (one or all) after it started shuddering and flashing the CEL at me last night. At least I was going slow and near a parking lot.
At least coil packs are only $150 for 4, which is pretty cheap vs a fuel pump or even a tow. (My tow cost me $128...)
Good luck and let us know if you find anything else. Do you have a Vag-Com? Oh, and is the CEL flashing or does the car say everything is well?
