Automatic recirc. on the climate control???

Automatic recirc. on the climate control???
I have something I'm hoping is an easy fix. I have an 2002 3.0 CVT. the automatic climate control when it comes on with start up the "automatic recirculation" button is lit and on. The A/C starts cooling down, set at 71. After a couple minutes the vents switch from hitting me to the windsheild or defrost?
I dont like that!!! i want it to stay with the vents on, hitting me. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it??? Currently i have to hit the regular recirulation button every time i get in my car and that is a pain in the ***.

The recirc/autorecirc is unrelated to which vents are used (more)
unless I misunderstood - were you addressing two different issues, or just the vents?
The AUTO buttons at the top are what enable the automatic vent selection. If you want specific vents, press the buttons for the vents you want it to use instead, which will turn off AUTO mode. The vent buttons are the three with the up arrow, down arrow, and vent icon next to the passenger side temperature.
Auto-recirculate is just for automatically switching to recirculated air from fresh air if the smog sensor detects certain exhaust fumes and such outside the car. Unfortunately, it is auto-enabled, it seems, but I like it...
All of this is illustrated in your owner's manual, by the way.
