Default a/c ?

I had my timing belt and accessory belt replaced over the weekend. Everything seems great except, now when I turn off my ac while im driving, it does a quick stutter. IIRC before i got this done, i would turn of my ac and there was no noticeable disruption to the motor.

Default I hope the wheel on the ac compressor for the serpentine belt is not starting to seize...

mine just seized last weekend and blew my compressor. $595 from discountacparts.com Hope your issue is something else, but don't know why the shutter would happen unless it's just releasing the extra load it puts on the motor...

Default The compressor is continuously driven, but the pumping displacement is variable....

When driving and turning off the A/C, the load on the compressor does not stop instantaneously, but regardless, it isn't supposed to be noticeable. Are you sure the system is charged with the correct amount of R-134A and compressor oil?

Default I've always heard that the compressor is continuously driven

versus having a clutch that engages the compressor. Interesting. So how does it work. You said the pump displacement is variable. If it's being driven, how does it not keep the AC running?

Does one actually save any fuel if they switch on the Econ mode then?

Default it is a swash plate design

basically there is a plate in the compressor and by varing the position of the plate it varies the amount of displacement in the compressor, pushing the econ button dosent truly turn off the compressor. the shaft for the swash plate has a solenoid attached to it, the solenoid is duty cycle operated, the higher the duty cycle the larger the displacement, the higher cooling effincey, when you push econ it de-energizes the solenoid reducing the compressor displacement to its minimum thus resulting in the compressor really not pumping much of any refrigerant causing reduced load on the engine, and decreased cooling and de-fog in the cabin. hope this helps.

Default Consider having the refrigerant charge checked and topped up. ...

The typical annual loss of refrigerant is 5 to 15 percent, so for example, on my '03, it's possible that over 50 percent of the full charge has been lost. I haven't recharged my A/C yet either. Ideally, the system should be evacuated with a vacuum pump, then recharged using the specified amount of refrigerant and compressor oil.
