Default chip difference...

about a month ago i purchased a 2000 vw gti 1.8t instead of another new A4 or used S4 to join my current b6 (decided to put the money towards a house). the gti has a apr chip while my audi has a giac.
the gti seems to pull more consistent where the audi seems somewhat sporadic. i know there is a vehicle weight difference but has anyone driven a apr audi and a giac audi?
i am now on the fence about a turbo upgrade. will a t-28/giac feel sporadic and a k04/apr feel more consistent?

APR chips are known for "smoother" power delivery, at least on the B5 A4s.

I've driven an APR b6 and it's smooooooth. So was my own apr beetle. Never drove giac though.

Default I've VAG logged both torque measuring blocks on a GIAC, APR Stage I, and APR Stage I+

And I've found that the GIAC torque hits its ceiling (185 ft lbs) immediately at 2500 RPMS, whereas the APR Stage I and I+ hit about 175 ft lbs. at 2500, then climb to ~190 (Stage I+ goes to ~197) at 4000 rpms. Of course this all depends on how accurate the VAG is logging these readings.

I haven't had a chance to verify these readings with another run on each of these cars, but someday I'll post my results.

Default If you look at the published (m)

torque curves, you'll see that the APR has a curve is very similar to the stock one in shape. You can feel this driving an APR chipped car. The car feels stock, almost deceptively so, until you notice that things are happening a lot faster than they did before chipping. Some people (myself included) like this. Others like GIAC's "kick-in-the-pants" approach. It all boils down to personal preference. When all is said and done, the actual numbers are very close.

Default i do feel the hit of both...

but it does seem to tail off with the giac. i did vag the a4 but havent done the apr gti yet. the good thing about giac is it is tunable. if i want to put a t3/t4 or a t60 on, the tuner can tweek the program
