Dipstick Funnel
So, I went to change the orange dipstick funnel over the weekend. It kept crumbling to pieces as i tried to pull it out. Finally all that was left was about one inch of it left at the bottom attached to the black tube that goes into the engine. I removed the coolant overflow tank so i could get some pliers on the orange part and pull it up. Well i thought i was carefull but, part of the black plastic tube broke off into the orange piece.
Has anyone ever changed the black tube that goes into the engine without tearing everything apart? It seems that the lower part of the black tube is metal and is press-fit into the engine block.
I am sick of all these plastic parts failing on this car!!

The black metal tube is pressed in and I have never seen anyone take that out with the engine still in the car. The only thing that you might be able to do is try heating up the metal around it and hammer it out with a small pry bar.

The brittle orange dipstick funnel is a common occurrence and many of us have had to deal with it too. Instead of picking at the tube with pliers, I simply used an Exacto knife to cut the plastic tube longitudinally so I could split it apart and away from the metal. Unfortunately I've never heard of anyone breaking off the black lower portion that the plastic funnel slips onto.
