do ecu mods drastically decrease the life of the car?
My mom was going to get me an ecu chip for Christmas, but she called the Audi dealer, and the guy told her he was fixing a car right then that broke down because of a chip. I need ammo to convince my mom that it wont make my car explode after 300 miles. HELP

Hmm...
Can't really say "drastically decrease the life of the car" but there's always risks. Aftermarket chips should be extensively tested be4 they r out.
Things do happen however. If the installer is good, then everything should be okay. But some gen1 A4s had some horrible stories after chipping - i.e. power loss all the sudden on freeway @ 80+mph due to bad connectivity between the chip & the ECU. Other than that, I've never really heard of many blown 1.8T cases.
