Default front upper control arm replacement

has anyone here had reason to replace their front upper CAs yet? If so, did you just get OEM replacements, or aftermarket (CPP?)? The bushings and ball joints on my CAs are shot (and I'm well out of warranty now), so I'm replacing them with "upgraded" CAs, and I'll replace the tie rod ends at the same time. Total cost for parts (including nuts/bolts etc) from a local shop is ~$550. Any tips for the install are appreciated =)

Default this is one question you actually may want to post in the B5 forum Matt

they've done a lot more of these than B6ers have.

Default "upgraded" or "HD" ones are basically stock. It refers to a change that they made in the bushings (m

in 2001 when they realized that they were crapping out like crazy. Thus you already had the "upgraded versions" from the factory.

I'm not that much of a fan of the CPP kit since the ball joints tend to wear out prematurely. My friend pulled his off at 5k and they were loose as hell. He sent them back to CPP and they said that they were perfectly fine. I dunno . . . . he was getitng a lot of chattering with them over bumps & etc.

Default CPP links probably aren't the best idea for a high mileage street car.

1. Alignments become a chore (and will likely be more expensive once the mechanic learns what a PTIA it is with the adjustable links).

2. Those heim joints are exposed to the elements, which means they are susceptible to more wear and tear than a sealed OEM component. Do you want to yank them out in 20K to have them rebuilt?
