Head gasket question

I’m doing the head gasket and I have the parts coming in soon. My question is, do you use RTV silicone or copper gasket maker on top of these gaskets. Or is it just the plain gasket without any sealer or is it with sealer on one or both sides? Please let me know, can’t find a straight answer. And what’s a good overkill cleaning thing to do while the engine is apart so you have a fresh engine to start with? Besides sending the head out which I am doing.

Typically the gasket is installed dry between solvent or detergent-cleaned surfaces. Blocks can be hot-tank cleaned, in case there has been sludge or rust issues.
