Headlight problem...
Anywho, I have a 2004 A4. I recently replaced the engine(which should be a whole new thread). Everything pretty much married up alright. But weeks after, I started to experience a few electrical problems. The drivers side window wouldn't go down. After some searching, I found disconnecting the battery often fixed it. And it did.
However, weeks later, again, the other side stopped working. And this time the battery trick didn't work. I recently moved to Florida from New Jersey and three states down on my way I got pulled over by the police. He wanted to inform me I had a headlight out. By the time I got to Florida, and about 200 miles from my destination, I realized both were out. I felt like the engine had a change in power at that leg of the trip for about 5 seconds. Kinda wierd. I think it may be related.
Im taking it to the shop in a few days if an easy fix doesn't pan out here. Any help you guys might offer would be great. I'm not expecting much. I try to do my homework but I'm stumped other than to start replacing obvious swithces. If anyone knows where to access the circuit to troubleshoot out the components, I would appreciate it.
also now that i think about it, my old b5 had a bunch of electric problems on it for a while, one headlight went out and then the other within the same day, turned out it was the battery somehow. i replaced it because it was dieing and everything was good after that. maybe check to see if your battery is holding charge
As far as the lights, I would be suspicious of the relays under the ECM box. If your cowl drains are blocked and it is raining, you maybe shorting out relays.
After takin my car to the carwash today, and spraying it with the high powered washer, my passenger side window worked from the drivers side console. That was for about five minutes. I'm guessing maybe a loose or corroded connection someplace in one of the doors or engine bay. I'm still appreciating any input, and I will keep you posted as well for a solution. Thanks.
