Default Heater Problems?

Has anyone had heater problems with the '02?

In the morning, when cool, the heater blasts cold air when the "lo" temparature is selected and 95 degree air if you move the temp control up to "64". The hot and cold air blasts from face-level vents. If set at "64", after about 15 minutes (if I can stand it) the temperature comes down to some reasonable level.

Has anyone else had this problem. It's driving me nuts!

Regards,

Dan.

In LO, turn the fan speed off, wait 'till the engine warms, then set your desired temp.

NMAudi,

Typically, the heater problem occurs even if I switch from lo to "64" after the car has been running for 5-10 minutes.

Is there something special that happens when you follow your process?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,

Dan.

Try 68 deg right/left and use the AUTO setting. This setting does not blow air in my face. (yet)

Turning the fan speed off in LO turns the complete climate control off. Maybe it'll reset & be OK.

Dan,
I was wondering if you are still experiencing the heater problem. I know I am.

What is "cool" in your region? We have here at the moment about 0 to 10F
and it´s quite normal winter temperature (North Finland).

In finland we have to buy optional electrical engine heater (it´s about
600 watts). This helps a bit of cold starts and fuel consumption in first ten´s
of kilometers. I guess you have these also in cold areas?

One nice feature is that air conditioner remembers fan setting in manual
mode or drivers desired fan setting. I like to use small fan setting. Usually
about 2-3 bars in that fan display. When I press AUTO, and the temperature
difference is big (setting vs car temp) it runs higher but usually in few
minutes it goes to that 2-3bars. And if you like to use higher value in
manual mode => guess what, it tries to keep that fan setting in AUTO
mode. Do have same kind of experience about this?

My first 02 A4 1.8T sedan (feb-01) had some problems in heating logic.
If you drove let say one hour and you stop to the gas station (5mins)
and you start to drive again => some how it needed to blow much warmer
air few minutes before settling again to same temperature... some kind
of bug of software or temp sensors ... or both. Newer Avant (Nov-01)
works fine. No this kind of feature at all.

Happy XMAS and safe miles to everyone!

Default Heater broken and University Audi in Seattle refuses to fix the problem...

I took the car into University Audi in Seattle Yesterday. The service guy (Derek) called and gave me a status. He said that the heater was working fine! When I said that this rotten heater performance was completely unacceptable in a $38,000 car, he set up an appointment with the Service Manager (Bjorne).

This morning the service manager and I tested the heater after it had sat outside all night. Outside temp was 39 degrees farenheit. After the car warmed up, the left outside vent constantly blew air at 115 to 120 degrees. Even after the car inside temparature reached the low 60s, the stupid heater kept blowing 115 degree air.

The service mananger offered to show me other Audi A4's to prove that this was normal. (OK, so all of them have broken heaters. So what!)

So at this point, I plan to write the President of University Audi, and Regional, US and Corporate Audi.

Above all, I will NEVER buy a car for University Audi and will probably never buy an Audi again. It is completely ABSURD to pay $38,000 for a German road machine and get a heater Hyundai Quality Control engineers would reject!

Based on this incident, I have lost complete faith in Audi's. Never again!

Default Maybe the beauty of the automatic climate control is beyond your comprehension?

Do not blame the car if you do not understand the workings of it. From your descriptions there does not seem to be anything wrong with the heater and it is performing as specified.

Maybe you have buyers remorse and trying to blame this on the car?

If you do not want the car, I will take it now.
