Default Help......Having a problem w the .........

Jetta. It overheated on Fri. I hobbled home. Some steam from behind the coolant reservoir, and leaked some coolant when I stopped and popped the hood. I only have green coolant. The reservoir is half full. Should I just top it off w/ distilled and hobble it to the dealer? ( 7 mi).

Default top off with distilled - DON"T use the green stuff...

i soiled once and made the mistake of using green coolant to top off (i know, i know, dumb mistake....) and i had to get the coolant system flushed...well, in addition to the "i'm a dumbass feeling", it cost me $80 to get the coolant system flushed, so don't make the same mistake i did

that said, tap water can be used to top off to get to the dealer, but if its leaking, it may overheat en route anyway

Default Re: use water

DO NOT USE GREEN COOLANT...or any coolant besides audi/vw coolant for that matter...I just had my car in the shop for a coolant leak and they had to flush my whole system to remove the green/audi coolant mix. The dealership said something about the two gelling when mixed because the audi coolant is a special mineral-based mix. Just my .02
