Help Mr. Wizard !
I just bought a 98 A4 1.8T Triptronic, 90,000 miles. It needs a new timing belt, control arm (front), valve gasket cover and transmission filter and fluid change.
My question is: Is it worth buying an APR chip, and what else would be recommended while I'm doing the work ? I plan on piling the miles on, mostly highway, and it needs to be dependable and halfway comfortable.

you'll need
brake fluid flush
trans fluid flush
coolant flush
timing belt KIT
water pump
etc etc. i'd guess you got at least $1500 (with labor) of work to do
its a beotch to do the timing belt/etc on those b5's

Its called Tiptronic...not Triptronic...
I would get the other work done first..see how you like the power and then consider the engine chip..and transmission chip (yes, there is one).
