Default How to install Vortex Spoiler or E46???

Hi,

I just got a Vortex spoiler from the dealer, it was really cheap, someone had ordered it but never purchased it, i got it for $80 painted, it was brand new in box, the only problem is, the directions are in German, how can i install this spoiler myself?

does it mount the same way the E46 mounts? if so, how does the E46 mount?

any help would be great

Thanks

Default M3 Spoiler install...

The M3 spoiler install was super easy. Did the Votex spoiler come with double sided tape? Do you see any screws?

The M3 spoiler install was done using the double sided tape provided.

Default You lucky SOB.. just kidding, congrats that is an unbelievable price.

I thought it was either glued on or there should be a strip of tape on the spoiler already. From what I have heard your will need at least two more people to properly put on and align the spoiler.

congrats again and the stealing of that spoiler!

Default Here's how I did it...

I installed the e46 on my e46 and plan to get another one for my a4.

I installed the tape on to the spoiler and test fit it on the car. I then marked with masking tape where the spoiler should go. Removed the tape from the spoiler and lightly laid it on the trunk lid. I did not have it centered at first so I just took it off. The tape does not stick permanently until you apply pressure. It took me a couple of tries to get it perfectly centered even with the masking tape helping but you can take it off unless you have pressed it on there.

Once you have it where it needs to go, apply pressure to the spoiler to set the tape. If I had to do it again I would probably lay the spoiler on the car and then slowly peel the tape off from one end to the other making sure things were straight.

The way you would do it a second time is the way I did it.

Default I believe it's some sort of 3M double sided tape.

If you can scan the instructions, I'm sure someone on here will be able to translate.

The tape on the e46 spoiler is VERY strong. Once you press the spoiler down onto the car, it's done. To get it off, I imagine you'd have to use the debadging technique. I doubt the tape damages the paint, since it is used on practically every new M3 out there.

You might try getting the tape from your local BMW parts department.

Default It's a two sided tape...

I don't think it will hurt the paint. Very similar to the tape used to put on the badges. I'm sure if I ever wanted to take the spoiler off - I could and then remove the tape with some type of "friendly" solvent or just by rubbing with my fingers.

I'm sure you can get a double sided tape for this type of application at Home Depot or a hardware store. The tape that came with the e46 spoiler is very strong as I have tried to move it (wiggle it up and down) but it does not. I usually open the trunk by grabbing the spoiler and it holds like cement. No problems yet after I installed it in October.

Default The tape I had did not have the 3M logo.

It had a blank backing although 3M may have made it. The tape is about an inch wide and ran the width of the spoiler.
