Ignition Coil Problems
I own 2002 1.8T and I have not had one fail yet, but I can sure expect it. I have a 45 mile from home to the airport every week and the last thing I want it to happen is it to brake down somewhere in the middle of it and be late for work.
Thanks

also more efficient that way.

It is slightly distressing to contemplate that your car could face reduced power with no warning. I'll grant you that.
I am sorry to say, but just because you feel you MIGHT be affected at some point, does not give you anywhere near the weight of someone who has experienced the situation. Agitating for attention when at this moment, your car works fine, and has worked fine up until now, seems pointless. Somebody at AoA is just going to say, "Nothing we can do for this guy, except send him a nice form letter". Maybe once the system has a full supply of coils and people who have had problems are handled, you'll get a letter asking you to come in for different coils or you'll be able to request a fresh set.
Imagine if you were a manager who has a new employee run into your office shouting, "the sky is falling !" and dancing around with their hands in the air. Now imagine that same employee walking in and handing you a report that does indicate the sky is actually approaching the ground. Who would you listen to ?
Informative insightful information such as what CPM has put together, is what gets more attention. Take a deep breath:-) If you wish to vent, do so in a rational fashion having considered your words so as to have maximum positive impact when you use them. One of the things I learned in car sales was that I could always tell the truth no matter how unpleasant, and still make the deal, depending on my skill to find the right words for the situation. Always leave hope. Nobody gives it their best, when people are attacking them.
I can't understand why Audi doesn't come out with a simple release that yes there is a coil pack problem, it affects certain cars, they are working on a fix, and will issue a recall if warranted. I would then back off.
These coils have a time/temperature failure event that could go past your warranty period then there's no Audi roadside assist, no free replacement, plus you could be standed far from home.
Some of us here know exactly what is failing in these coil packs and they can go anytime because of the root cause! For being an EE and what I know this doesn't leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling. I'm buying a spare CP!

I'm not trying to shovel it under the table, as something obviously is wrong, but we need to have some perspective on this. It doesn't totally disable the car. It doesn't appear to damage the car. 10 to 15% of one production year seem to have the problem. That is 14.99% too many though. That means 85 to 90% of driver's haven't had a problem - so far.
Are we blowing this out of proportion ? Most likely, yes. There are a lot of other cars out there with far worse problems, whose owners get far less response. That doesn't make it right, as everyone expects a perfect product, but we need to keep this in perspective. Nothing made by humans is ever perfect - some flaws are hidden better than others;-)
I don't mind reading about people who have had actual failures and their observations. What gets really tiring however, are people who develop sympathetic outrage even though they themselves have not been affected in any way. It's not constructive for the situation or the forum. It diminishes situations and the voice of the actual people who do have problems. Like free loaders jumping into the homeless charity, claiming they might themselves be homeless some day.
Perhaps we should be asking what we can do to help. I know the answer would be that they have it handled, but as CPM has demonstrated, he gets more response by being politely persistant, than someone who rants away.
The goal is to get a fix out to everyone. We know Audi is working hard for the fix, since this costs them for loaners, techs, parts, bad pr, holding customer's hands, etc. It would be counter productive for them to deliberately hold back from fixing cars.
Please don't take this personally, since I posted under your message, as isn't meant that way.
