Default Possibly. The bumpstops are under compression in normal operation...

...and serve as final buffer stop when the shocks are fully compressed. If you remove the bumpstops or reduce their height by trimming them down, you allow additional suspension travel beyond what the shock or spring manufacturer may have intended. This may be enough to cause rubbing.

Can you verify if the bumpstops are in (front AND rear)? If they're not, I'd say your friend should have the OEM sport ones installed.

Default You gotta make sure it's stiff...

BTW, what are the width and offset of these new wheels?

Default Doesn't matter what springs are in it.

If you want to keep those wheels, you gotta go up.
Probably offset is an issue or tire size is wrong because otherwise the outer diameter should be almost exactly the same from 16-20" in wheel size.

Default I'd definitely agree with Ramondo...looks like too wide of tires and wheels with too agressive of

offset. Get some 19's with 45-40ET and 235 tires.

But if it only rubs when going over bumps and not while turning on smooth roads then you need to tell your friend to go UP!!

Default I would put a stock set of springs back in for now and then maybe lower

once he got things sorted out.

Default Black shocks = Stock Non-Sport Shocks...thus he probably has lowering springs on his car

with stock non-sport shocks. Just a guess. Black springs is harder since a lot aftermarket companies use black springs.

Are there any colored dots on the springs?
Is the ride bumpy as if it bounces up and down when going over uneven roads?

Default If the bumpstops weren't in, the shock tower rod would be sticking up way high...

And it wouldn't cause it to rub. The guy who lowered my first car made that mistake.

Default I'm going to be the first to guess that the previous owner cut the springs to lower the car...

Get new springs or coilovers.
