problem
dad came out to his 03 1.8t quattro manual avant today, it's 29 degrees. car had sat in work parking lot all day, very slight slope. he came out, and there was puddle coming from the center of engine bay... not enough fluid to tell what it was, says it felt silky like antifreeze, but had no distinguishing pink color. no problems before this, any ideas what it could be...
he's on his way to the dealer now, car is driving fine, no overheating or anything (although it is 29 degrees)
apr chipped and 710N valve are his only mods

says it was still wet, he's been parked there all day
it didnt freeze (temps are below freezing) so it probably isnt water... and it was making a tiny stream when he got back
my dad is very particular about his car, he would have seen the leak if it was already there... he checks his car often (the car is in mint condition after 25k)

dealer guy thinks it might be waterpump...
says they will give him a rental if its the waterpump and get it fixed tomorrow
says its up and down on the rack, one guy under hood and one guy in passenger cabin so he's waiting for answer

solution (inside)
dealer said nothing was wrong, said it was prob condensation from air compressor...
my dad told me this, so i explained to him that in low temps (under 38F) the compressor wont come on so that the coils wont freeze. he said "oh yea the snowflake wasnt on."
so he went back and told them, they checked some more, then realized that the last time his oil was changed, and the oil was pumped out and the filter was changed... but they didnt rinse off the belly pan... so oil mixed there with condensation later on, and just finally, on the slope it trickled off...
so he had no problems, good to know, and the only reason the audi dealer forgot to wash it off is because the ownership just got changed and they are renovating.
