Quick Flashloader question...

Quick Flashloader question...
sup all.
going to need to go to the dealer soon for maintenance so I'm deciding about the flashloader.
I'm planning to go back to where I got my flash and get the stock program (question about that in a bit). Then I'm going to buy a VAG-COM cable on ebay and use my laptop to switch between the programs.
Anyone here use their laptop to do this vs the physical flashloader? The only time I'll need to switch it back is dealer visits and I almost always have my laptop on me so not an issue.
I see a ton of VAG-COM cables on ebay...assuming they're mostly the same, right?
Now my question on the re-flashing back to stock. When I was flashed with the software, it had the adaptive learning, as usual when the ECU gets re-flashed. But when I flash it back to stock then after I'm done with the dealer and I flash it back to the GIAC program, will it have to adapt all over again or does it save my adaptive setting from previously?
