seized bolt during coilover install normal?

Default seized bolt during coilover install normal?

my car is at the shop getting the vogtland coilovers installed. they said both fronts had seized pinch bolts? they had to air chizel and and drill them out, then order replacement bolts. is this normal for an western ny car (read: snow, ice, salt in winter) with 50k miles? any reason to be concerned?

they're waiting for one more bolt to get delivered so the car isn't ready yet.

sounds like they tried to remove the bolts with the suspension unloaded

Default I broke the head off the driver side pinch bolt when I installed my Vogtlands...

same as you, ice, slush, salt winter conditions. I avoided breaking the one on the passenger side by unbolting the control arms at the strut tower.

Default are they talking about the two pinch bolts on the upper control arm?

I tried hard to remove these during my suspension install last weekend and failed. Then realized they aren't required to come out to do the install.


These are the only bolts that need to be removed in order to get the strut assembly out. I think the bolts you're talking about are center top with the rubber bushings/boots/sleeves.

he's talking about the horizontal pinch bolt that isn't labeled, at the near end of both CAs

Default oh, the horizontal one.

I wasn't sure if the two pinch joints that are being pinched by that horizontal bolt were also called "bolts".

The guy helping me said those two pinch joints (on each side) came free after taking the pinch bolt out which allowed him access to drop the strut assembly on his A8. Wasn't the case on my car. Those pinch joints weren't budging, even after the horizontal bolt was removed.

That's when we went to the method I posted above from AZ.

Default I just picked up the car. seems like it was no biggy for them (whew)...

one of the mechanics i talked to put me at ease and they didn't charge much more for the extra work.

it's the only way when those pinch joints won't break free. I didn't have much choice.
