Default upgrading lights

We just purchased a 2002 1.8T sedan with everytihng except xenon's. I would like to upgrade my lights using bulbs only (the next Audi will have xenon's !). Does anyone have experience with the PIAA H7 Xtreme White for low and high beams ? Also, what bulbs can be used in the fog/driving/daytime tunning lights (Canada model) ? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated - especially if anyone from Canada knows of a parts dealer here selling either the PIAA's or Hella's.

Thank you,

Tim

Default Personally if you're not going to get ballasts and Xenon bulbs, just keep the stock halogens.

I think they do quite well with the OEM projectors. I wouldn't spend any money on Junk "HID Look" bulbs.

Just my 2cents.

Thanks very much. If I were to go with an HID kit (have researched several on the 'net), what would you recommend ? Seems like all I have seen do not have self leveling - is that really important ? I won't be hauling dirt or rocks in the car...

Just out of curiosity, there seem to be a high number of Audi owners trying to upgrade to xenon -why doesn't Audi offer a post-purchase xenon upgrade ? Being from Canada, I was told that the Audi upgrade wld cost up to $5K ! There are kits anywhere from $400 - $1200.

Now I owe you $0.04 or $2.00 CDN !

Rick - I am on the road (business trip) with a slow laptop connection. Try me at twakaruk@forzani.com with info about what you have to offer - either advice or product.

Thanks very much,

Tim

Thanks - some outfits in US and here in Canada claim to have PIAA H7 but I am skeptical. Perhaps it's something from Japan ? I am trying some Hella's in my highbeams and do notice a difference between the OEM and the Hella with a claimed 50% more light power. 50% may be overstated a bit but there definately is a difference.

Default 5k seems way too much but that's for all OEM parts (levelers, housings, ballasts, bulbs, wiring)

which isn't too far off probably. Leveling is important so you don't blind people on uneven roads. Some people will tell you that they get high-beam flashed alot by other people and some will tell you they don't.

I personally like the Halogen Projectors and see no reason to upgrade. I drove a 98 A4 Avant for about 2 months with stock HID's and they were great, but I don't think that it's worth dishing out 5k for.

I say, if you really want HID's then get an aftermarket plug and play kit like from Misterjung.com for $380. Give it a try with the stock projectors. I have a new 6oooK H7 kit that I was going to put into my 97 A4 2.8, but I traded it in before I could do the install. After driving my B6 around for some time now, I am very pleased with the stock halogen beam pattern and intensity. I am not going to put the kit in because I'd rather not blind people as I pass by (safer for me and them).

Excellent - thanks very much for the advice. When I upgrade the bulbs I will post the results for others to learn from...

Default PIAA does sell a H7 bulb but only outside the US

Just do a search and you'll find sources overseas. Some local sources are waiting for supplies. Short of Xenons, this seems to be the bulb of choice.
