Default 06 2.0T Timing belt question

I have a 2006 A4 2.0T with 60K. My local shop suggests replacing timing belt and serpentine belt at 60K, probably because of all the issues from the 1.8T motor. My service book says 75K. Furthermore, I have read that Audi sent out a bulletin saying it was not due until 105K. This is an expensive repair and I really don't want to spend the money if I really don't have to.
I'd most likely do it by 75K, but hesitate doing it now at 60K. Can someone familiar with this tell me if there is any record of timing belts failing on the B7 2.0T motors prior to 75K. What do others suggest?

Hey Sail

Here is a link to the Bentley Service schedule.

http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/Audi/Ma...e_Schedule.pdf (page #17)

It states 75K for the 2.0T. There has been a lot of talk that Audi extended this to 105K, but I have not been able to find the actual copy of this TSB. Frankly, 105K is a LOOONG time for a timing belt and I would personally not take that gamble unless, I bought the car under CPO and I was still under the 100K extended protion. At least you know it won't cost you anything if it does go. If you are like me and you don't have any warrantee, I would not gamble after 75K. My car had 92K on it when I bought it and the first think I did was get the TB done. I figured I would rather spend the $1000 and know I would not have to buy another motor if the belt goes and I am set for another 50K.

As far as your 60K goes, I would not worry about it until 75K, IMHO. I think 60K is probably too early, but hopefully someone else can chime it and confirm or not.

Cheers

WHOA! Bad advice on hoping warranty will cover it! Read the CPO warranty sometime. Belts are not covered. Damage due to lack of maintenance is not covered. So I'd got with doing it and not creating some sort of huge nightmare/headache. But yes I agree, by all means hold out till 75k unless the belt is worn below spec. Better to spend the money and avoid the headache like you Massboykie said.

"If" there is a TSB stating that TB has been pushed to 105K then your still fine with your CPO. I'd love to get a copy of this TSB if its true!

Makes two of us... I had this same conversation with some people on Vortex and someone claimed that his dealership showed him a doc etc. etc. I know the TSI motor chains have the 105K schedule, but for the TB that just seems too high.

Not sure if I made sense earlier...
I meant that if the car is under CPO warrantee (drivetrain extends to 100K I believe) and you followed all the maintenance requirements and the belt broke (before the 100K), that would be their baby, not yours.

Thanks Guys,
I didn't see any reason to replace TB before 75K either, but will definitely do it at that time. From the research I have done, I have not seen any TB failure prior to 75K on the B7's. We are planning on keeping the car for about 2 more years (when the 09's are coming back as lease returns) by then we'll be pushing 100K.

I have 06 A4 2.0T front wheel drive. I bought it under CPO from Audi. Some time after purchasing Audi sent me a letter stating they changed the timing belt service from 75k to 110k. So basically the new service recommendation from Audi is to do it near 110k. Mine is at 105k now and I will do it soon. A nearby shop auto shop quoted me about $800. Audi dealer will be expensive.

I have an '06 Quattro. i did mine at around 82000 because my water pump was leaking. i bought the kit with the metal water pump from ecstuning.com and had my mechanic install it for me. I saved a grip from buying my own parts. Parts and labor came out to less than $700 for me!

I changed mine right under 100,000 and it was fine. Why not call AoA and get a definitive answer?

Do the replacement very early.

I stupidly believed the dealership and Audi recommendations when they said no need for a timing belt change on my 2006 2.0T A6 until 110K. Then it broke at 93K and now I am looking at a very expensive engine repair. Calling the dealer back on this was infuriating. They didn't care at all. I doubt Audi cares very much either. Guess I will go with another manufacturer when I sell this car (soon). Didn't even get to 100K before it melted down.
