A4 Bluetooth
I have ordered a 2.0Tfsi Quattro to be built week 27. I am keen to have bluetooth, but I don't want a car cradle. The dealer tells me the phone prep won't work without a cradle. Does anybody have a phone prep car without cradle?? If so does it would on the dash display??

on my 2000 a4 I wired a motorola BT-car kit and it showed PHONE on the dash etc as if i had installed the car kit from Audi. It did everything I needed it to do and worked great. Talking on the phone, walk into the car and it transfers over without touching anything.... on speakerphone... turn car off... it beeps and its on the hand set.... it didnt have the data functionality to transfer any phone numbers etc.

Hi there.
I have a B7 on order (UK spec) and here you can have the bluetooth kit without the cradle on the dash. You have a choice of the dash cradle or a cradle in the front armrest. Now the interesting bit that my dealer told me is that you don't HAVE to have a cradle cause the whole thing in wireless...you only need the cradle if you want to charge the phone in the car!
If you go to audi.co.uk and look under A4 for a price list (PDF) you can see the two options for the car kit and their respective prices...Hope this helps!

you have to have a cradle somewhere
because Audi does not allow the use of a GSM phone inside the car without an external antenna. I people use it is another question but as far as I know do all Audi phone kits come with some kind of cradle somwhere.

You only need a cradle for certain phones.
The SonyEricssons will NOT need a cradle.
The cradle is mainly used to be able to pull the phone book with phones that do not have a Sim card or different firmware.
You should be able to program the car to the phone (and not the other way around) and that is it!

So if your phone has sim card, you don't need the cradle?
I don't understand how the bluetooth thing is going to work. All I know is that I ordered my car with that option. Since I don't currently have a bluetooth phone, I'm going to have to learn which is the right type to get. Unfortunately, I'm limited by my stupid carrier, Sprint, which apparently doesn't like bluetooth since they only have two to choose from. Thinking about changing to Cingular which has a lot more choices. Any recommendations?
