CDC Symphony 2 hack?
Hello all,
Hoping someone is more nerdy than myself and has managed to do this already....
I have a symphony 2 stereo in my B7 avant, it has an inbuilt 6 cd changer and doesn’t have a SAT button.
my plan was to install a Bluetooth module into the blue plug on the back. I purchased a generic Audi Bluetooth device and I have wired it in as instructed. It required its own power and ground as well as plugging into the blue plug on the head unit.
the module powers up and I can connect my phone to it etc no problems there...
the issue is that it’s designed to run through the CDC feature of the head unit. My head unit didn’t come with an external CDC. When holding button “4” and powering up the unit I get the message “no CDC”. I’ve been on vagcom and coded the unit to say it has a CDC but that has changed nothing. I’m wondering if there is a wire that needs a 12v supply or grounding to fool the head unit into thinking it has an external CDC? If not is there another way of wiring in the signal from the Bluetooth, I’m thinking maybe hacking into the tape deck inside the unit and replacing the signal wires with the Bluetooth signal wires. 🤔 any help appreciated. 😎

I’ve enabled the CDC (external CD Changer) on the symphony II, the Aux input is only an option for the symphony II+
I think it’s probably a lost cause. The stereo obviously needs some sort of signal from the Bluetooth device to think that the CDC is connected and to allow it to be selected.
I did pretty much the same as you, my phone was already connecting for calls but only worked for music after re-programming. There are now two Audi bluetooth devices to connect to, my phone finds the voice call automatically, but I always have to manually connect the AUX.
Despite all that, I got mine working, but the now the sound is tinny and the equaliser controls don't seem to work in AUX mode. Then I discovered my rear speakers aren't working so I need to check my wiring again. Like you, I'm beginning to think it may be a lost cause.
Then comes the question, what do I replace it with? How long will I keep the car?
