Driving with cruise control
I heard driving with cruise control helps save gas. I do ALOT of highway driving should i have it set on a speed and leave it??
At what speed/rpm/gear do I get the best gas efficiency. I thought it was at lower rpms but when im goin 140 kph and im at 3 or 4 rpms it seems to take up less gas than when im goin 50 and im at 2 rpms. Im guessing this from the distance i have left estimated by the trip computer.
insight appreciated.

THere will be some variance due to slight uphills/downhills
If you can keep the speed constant you'll get the best gas mileage. I think if you're doing something like 80-90km in top gear, that's the best economy.
But that's no fun

Wow, nice car. Here is what I do...
6th gear will basically take you anywhere, without the need to downshift... even here in the mountains. I have discovered, though, that I get better mileage WITHOUT using cruise. The last time I was on a flat highway my avg with apr 93 was 35mpg. Again, nice car.

Re: Driving with cruise control
If you are on reasonably level terrain you might save gas by using cruise. In hilly terrain you will most likely get worse mileage as the cruise won't slow down up the hills and you most likely will without even noticeing it.

I get better milage using cruise on the highway
Even in hilly terrain.
It keeps me from unintentionally speeding up and slowing down.
I also think it's probably saved me from a few speeding tickets because, I just set it at 12 over and go with it.
When I don't use cruise, sometimes I glance down and realize "Gee, I probably don't need to be going 95 in this 70 mph zone."
The A4 is just so smooth at cruise it's easy to end up going much faster than it seems.
But that could just be me.
