Default ECU Update

I just dropped my 2006 2.0 Quattro Tip for service and they said there was a new recall for an ECU update. Any idea what this does?

Default That is just a software update. They will reflash the computer...

you probably wont even notice anything different, unless you are "chipped". It is pretty common for Audi to come out with an upgraded program and re-flash the ECU when in for service

What happens if you are chipped? I have APR with the lock-out. Will this delete my APR ECU program?

Thank you in advance, this definitely got my attention...

Default 2nd What if you are GIAC chipped with the extra stock program.

Does the factory flash only affect the stock program. John please elaborate if you can.

Thanks

Default If the car is chipped, even if you have the stock program........

it will be flashed over. GIAC has designed its programming to allow this to happen. This way, the dealer can do what they have to and in most cases never know you were chipped. Then you just have to go back to where you originally got flashed and have the program uploaded again. GIAC does not re-charge for the program although the shop may charge a minimal labor fee.
As far as other software companies go, thats up to them, if there is a lockout feature to keep the dealer from accessing anything, you might have a problem when the dealer tries to re-flash, they will know you are chipped.

Default I was told by reliable sources dealers are getting new scanners from Europe to detect chipped...

ECUs but GIAC has already made their programming stealth for this with the latest GIAC update. Is that correct?

Your sources are correct. GIAC has made it invisible to the scanners.

Default "GIAC has made it invisible to the scanners." a recent update?

Or has GIAC always had this implemented?
