getting car flashed

Default getting car flashed

I have a 2005.5 a4 avant 2.0t. A buddy of mine wants to hook me up with a dealer to get it "flashed." I am a total newbie here..could someone put in plain english what this entails? Are there downsides? Does gas mileage change? Could I damage the car? It is a cert preowned with low mileage..will this invalidate my warranty? Can they know for sure I did it versus the prior owner (an individual, not a dealer).

basically, should I spend the $700 they are asking to flash it for an extra 50 hp (they claim).

Default Sooo worth it.

Simple terms: they plug a laptop to your car and reprogram your ECU. The new program changes a number of the operating parameters of the engine that results in more horsepower and torque that is readily noticeable.

Downsides? You wind up driving faster than you normally would. Gas mileage? Seems normal so far. Damage to the car? Can't recall an ECU flash being the direct cause of a failure on a car. Now, if you get in accident because you're driving too fast, that's a different question.

In a nutshell: Do it. It gives the car a whole new personality.

Default Flashing is one of the best bang for buck mods you can do......

with GIAC you will see 41 hp and 75 ft/lbs of torque. You also have the option to change back and forth between the performance program and stock(for those visits to the dealer for warranty work)
This is all completely safe for the car, otherwise we wouldn't do it on our own daily driven cars. Mileage really should not be any different but some have said they see a little better under normal conditions. Keep in mind though, now that you are making more power, it uses more fuel to do so. APR is one of the most reliable - and has the fewest issues - especially at altitude
