getting car flashed
basically, should I spend the $700 they are asking to flash it for an extra 50 hp (they claim).

Downsides? You wind up driving faster than you normally would. Gas mileage? Seems normal so far. Damage to the car? Can't recall an ECU flash being the direct cause of a failure on a car. Now, if you get in accident because you're driving too fast, that's a different question.
In a nutshell: Do it. It gives the car a whole new personality.
This is all completely safe for the car, otherwise we wouldn't do it on our own daily driven cars. Mileage really should not be any different but some have said they see a little better under normal conditions. Keep in mind though, now that you are making more power, it uses more fuel to do so.
