Immobilizer / key programing
Hi
I purchased a used 2007 Audi A4 via local auction. Car did not have ignition key. I read in one of the forum that VW keys are interchangeable so I got a second hand complete set ( Housing with steering lock , key cylinder and key). Installed in my Audi. Switched on instrument cluster lights up did its scanning and display OK but car cranks no start.
Spoke to the Audi dealership , the service guy asked me to tow it in, they would check. I did so and was told that I need to get a new key cylinder and new key, since I did not have any other choice I agreed to purchase the part.
Now dealer says still its not communicating ( with new part in) may be the housing needs to be replaced. I have a strong feeling they are trying to rip me off.
My question is does ignition housing communicate with the car's computer.
