is this normal?
It had been raining and foggy all weekend with the road being pretty slushy certain times (and wasnt the best view of foliage either, oh well).
I think the car did very well, was loving the quattro - never felt this confident driving anything uphill aroung tight steep corners in mud.
However, when we stopped at a spot around 2.5 miles into the drive to take some pictures, I could literally smell and feel the heat from the engine from like 5 yards away. The gauge stayed in the center and didnt show anything abnormal. No lights came on.
There were 4 of us driving with very light luggage. I had to drive in 1st gear almost 60% of the time else it would start lugging.
Ambient was like 45oF.
I just got the feeling that the car was needlessly overheating in a very short period of time.
This is my 1st Audi and Iam not sure what to expect - so, was that normal?
Oh yeah, don't shut the car down if your turbo is glowing. Always let the car idle for a few mins to let it cool down. You will risk damaging the turbo and the oil.
Good practice is to idle the car for about 60 secs for light to moderate driving. Longer if you want to baby it. If you get chipped, then at least 2 mins.
